Talent Development and Competitiveness – IMD Criterion of the Month

By Arturo Bris, Professor, Director of the IMD World Competitiveness Center.

The recent academic literature highlights the role of talent development in the form of increased employee training for competitiveness.

According to the literature, training results in increased/improved performance and productivity, and it allows enterprises to nurture innovation and to offer better products and services. Ultimately, further productivity and innovation resonate in the competitiveness of a country.

The criterion of this month looks at the trends in employee training – in terms of the priority that companies assign to it – during the period of 2009-2014 and reflects on its impact on competitiveness.
